What many boys at Jerome High School are waiting for. That passion of theirs of finally being on the field and being able to rejoin their team came once again. The time for the Jerome boy’s soccer team to show who they are and to work hard and to make it once again to the top.

The boys had a summer tournament this year in Boise and two in Oregon. Their first tournament was in Newport, Oregon. The first game was tied versus Newport. After this game they lost their next game and had to win their five next games to win the championship. The Jerome boys worked hard throughout the whole day and won the first four games. The last game came and they disputed the final, but it ended in a loss for the Tigers due to their fatigue after playing five games in one day. The second tournament in Oregon they played two different teams. They lost their first game versus Ontario but were able to beat the best conference team in that area, La Grande, with a 3-2 win. The last tournament in Boise didn’t go well for them. They were able to win one game, tied once and lost twice. Overall, they were able to get a good playing experience to be ready for their next obstacle.

The beginning of the Great Basin conference for the boys was pretty rough. They played against one of their biggest opponents, the Twin Falls Bruins. It was a well fought game for the Tigers but not enough for the win. However they were able to take a tie.

After that game they had a very successful game against Minico, taking a 6-0 win over the Minico Spartans. They were able to show their skill and live up to the team that they were last year. However, it started to become a rocky path for the Tigers in the next couple of games.

They began to have a rough time being the strong team that they were well known for. After their victory over the Spartans they lost their next three games versus Wood River, Canyon Ridge and Twin Falls. Wood River was the game with a wider range between score by two, letting the score be 2-0 a hard defeat for the Tigers. They were very close to winning the next two games. The scores were both 1-0 favoring their opponents. These couple of games were very hard for the Tigers, but it didn’t stop them.

They were able to win once again the game against Minico with the same score. But they had another fall against Wood River in a tougher match at Wood River’s home with a 3-0 loss.

The Tigers played Burley twice in less than three days and had a very different outcome each time. The first game was home for the Tigers where they were able to take the win in a hard game. It was close for both teams with many opportunities, but the Tigers were able to take advantage of their field and were able to beat Burley 2-1. The second game was a different story. It was in Burley and was their Senior Night. It was a tougher game for the Tigers since Burley came out with all they had to win on a special night for them. Burley ended up defeating Jerome 1-0.

The night came for the Jerome seniors and the rest of their teammates to step up and prove that they are strong. Jerome’s Senior Night was against the Canyon Ridge Riverhawks. It was an intense game and went well for the Tigers because they were able to win 1-0 in a very important game and ended the conference in the right way to begin their journey through districts.

Overall it was a pretty tough season for the boys . They had to deal with losing some of their star players as well as many injuries that made them lose additional players who could have helped them a lot. But they aren’t giving up just yet. With districts ahead, this is where they will be able to show how strong they are. Senior Ascension Escobedo says, “ I think we’ll do good if we work together and keep our heads throughout.”
