Rugby is a relatively dangerous sport, usually described as a mix between soccer and football, and almost always accredited to guys. This next spring, Jerome High School will be joining Burley Bobcats to create a girls rugby team. Rugby isn’t an Idaho High School Sport yet, so it will be more of a club for now. Last year, McCall Stauffer coached the team in Burley, the Mano Rugby Club, Mano being the Hawaiian word for shark. She thought it would be a good idea to give Jerome girls the opportunity to join and play as well.

Although the girls practice in their respective schools, they come together on Saturdays to practice as a group. The season will be starting in March, giving plenty of time to teach everything to the girls. Coaches start by teaching the basics at first and then move on to tactics and tackling.

While rugby is not a popular sport in the United States and many of the rules are different compared to other sports, Jerome is excited to bring this opportunity to its students. March is quickly approaching and these girls are working hard to be the best. Be ready to be hearing a lot about the Mano Rugby Club.
