Jerome Boys Varsity Basketball has had quite of a season. Games full of wins and games full of not-so wins. The boys will enter the district season 3-7 in the conference, putting them at 5th in the conference.

Head Coach Joe Messick said, “I have been super pleased with the progression of the team. These boys have worked hard from Day 1 and they have continued to get better with each practice and game. We are really looking forward to the district tourney and the possibility of knocking off one of the top teams.”

The Tigers have had some close games such as the away game at Canyon Ridge with Jordin Myers hitting a buzzer beater shot. James Slone hit a three to tie the game. Canyon Ridge then turned the ball over and the Tigers got the ball under the Riverhawks’ basket. The inbounds play saw Myers hitting a two point basket from the elbow to win the game, 64-62.

The team has some areas to improve in before moving on to districts, such as boxing-out, rebounding, and good passes, though they are sure that those will be easy fixes.

While some may doubt the chances of the team making it, the boys are confident that with great ethics, strength, and confidence, they can make it. They are hard working and have a lot of potential as not just individuals but as a team.

The top four players in average points per game are Cole Baker with 11, James Slone 9, Austin Bell 8, and Jordin Myers 6. The boys play at Canyon Ridge for their first district game Tuesday, February 13 at 7pm.
