Breaking News! Biden Leads in Neck and Neck Election

At 6 am this morning, Joe Biden leads the presidential election 238 to 213. So far the election has been a tight race with the lead bouncing back and forth between the two candidates.

Early Wednesday morning, Donald Trump falsely asserted election fraud, threatened to take legal action with the Supreme Court to intervene with the election, and claimed victory. “This is a fraud on the American public. This is an embarrassment to our country. We were getting ready to win this election, frankly, we did win this election. So our goal now is to insure integrity, for the good of this nation. This is a very big moment, this is a major fraud on our nation. We want the law to be used in a proper manner, so we’ll be going to the US Supreme Court. We want all voting to stop.” His statement has faced backlash from all sides including his close allies. Chris Christie, a former GOP Governor of New Jersey who is a close Trump Ally has said “All these votes have to be counted that are in now…Tonight was not the time to make this argument. I disagree with what he did tonight.” Even Fox News, who is known for having strong republican bias, denounced Trump’s statement. Dan Perino calling it “ Deeply Irresponsible” Biden’s campaign manager has also called his statements “Outrageous, unprecedented, and incorrect.”

Trump was able to take 2 very important swing states last night with Florida and Texas. Biden secured Arizona and New Hampshire. Trump currently leads in Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina and Pennsylvania while Biden leads in Nevada and Wisconsin. Pennsylvania is very important and both candidates are well aware of that. Both have them targeting the state and heavily campaigned there. Trump barely won the democratic leaning Pennsylvania in 2016 by one percent. 3 weeks ago, Biden held a 7 point lead in Pennsylvania but now it has tightened and Trump currently has the lead. Pennsylvania, with its 20 electoral votes, will be very important in determining who will win this election.

There has been an exceptional amount of mail in votes this year due to Covid and they are slowing down the count in many important states. Trump has made it clear that he is not a fan of mail in ballots, while his opponent, Biden backs them. However, mail in ballots are not in any way biased towards either side.

With this tight race and Trump already threatening to take legal action. It might be a while until we officially know who the next president of the United States will be. Some people say it could take up to two weeks, some say 2-3 days, and some, like Trump, think it’s already decided. There is no clear answer as of now.
