2020 In Review

2020+In+Review

As we all know, 2020 hasn’t been a good year. From all the fake news stories to the tons of people on the news constantly.

Out of all the news stories that we have seen there are three that have stuck out to me. The wildfires throughout the northwest part of America, BLM riots, and, of course, the pandemic. California, Idaho, a small part of Oregon, Montana, and Nevada were all affected by fires this year. Most of them were caused by dry ground, lighting storms, and other natural things. However, we know that one was caused by a gender reveal party gone wrong. 1.8 million acres were burnt away, including many homes.

BLM (Black Lives Matter) riots started the beginning of summer, and there were 19+ deaths, and 14,000+ people were arrested. Many celebrities took part in this. When looking across the map, there were many riots happening all at once in more than one state. Many businesses were destroyed, truck drivers weren’t able to make deliveries, and many 1st responders weren’t able to get through the crowds to do their jobs.

By now, we have all heard of the pandemic. Between the masks becoming mandatory and many loved ones being sick with the virus. Many states and countries have been taking action. In Boise, Idaho, they have now made it to where if you are not wearing a mask, you will be fined. A little over 1,000 people have died because of the virus. Hospitals are overflowing with people and unfortunately, there is a hospital that has a room specifically to send people to go die if they can’t do anything else to cure them from the virus.

Over the course of 2020, many people have been on the news. I feel like the people who have been on the news the most are Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Most people have heard about the legal issues going on between the two. Johnny Depp has lost many of his jobs like his role in Fantastic Beasts and Pirates of The Caribbean. While Amber Heard has gotten to keep her job in AquaMan. Amber Heard hasn’t been the most liked person in the world right now, but she claims that people are getting paid to petition against her. In fact, there is a petition with over a million signatures wanting Amber Heard fired, and Johnny Depp to get his jobs back.

Going through the news stories of 2020, there is one story that people talked about, but nothing really happened with it. That is the story of the Murder Hornets. People started talking about them sometime in the summer, and since then, no one has said anything about them.

What is Journalism?

Journalism is telling a story through the truth. Without journalism, most people wouldn’t know what is happening in the world or in their neighborhoods. I love being a part of journalism, and being able to share the stories that I find with people that I know. 2020 has definitely given Journalists plenty to write about.
