Rigby, Idaho- Last week at a middle school in Rigby, a rural area in Idaho, was attacked by a sixth grade girl with a handgun. She shot two students and a staff member. According to Education Week, “The shooting happened around 9 a.m. Thursday, when police say the girl pulled a handgun out of her backpack and shot two other students and an adult custodian before she was disarmed by a teacher and held until police arrived. All three were shot in the extremities, and none had life-threatening injuries.”
Most schools in Idaho may get threats, but usually don’t have school shootings. Especially a girl causing a school shooting isn’t usual either. But according to Alfred University, they have ranked some reasons why a girl might start a school shooting. The first reason is because they want to get back at the people who hurt them, which 87% of people agree with. The second reason is because they get picked on, people bully them or they make fun of the shooter. About 86% of people agree with this reason. Another reason is because the shooter might not value life. This reason has about 62% of people agree. A fourth reason is that they have been victims of physical abuse at home, 61% of people agree with this reason. The next reason is that they have mental problems, which 56% of people agreed with. Another reason is that it’s easy for the shooter to access a gun. About 56% of people agreed with this. Following that reason is that they don’t get along with their parents , which has 55% of people agreeing.
Police are still trying to figure out why the girl attacked the middle school. It will most likely be one of those reasons that are explained up above. But there is a GoFundMe fundraiser for each of the victims that got shot. So if you would like to help out with their recovery, here are the links for the three of them.
